How to clean your sex toys

Just like any piece of gear, your adult toys will work better and last longer if you take care of them properly and keep them clean.

Because your adult toys will be in intimate contact with your private parts, or those of a loved one, you have to clean after each use.

A good soap, preferably a mild antibacterial one, combined with warm water is best to clean sex toys. Try to find antibacterial soap that has a mild odor or none at all, in case the sex toys get used during oral sex.

How you proceed to clean your item depends on the type of adult toys you have.

Cleaning your dildo

Since a dildo or dong has no moving parts or electric motor to worry about getting wet, they are easy to clean. Submerge the dildo in warm soapy water or lather it up with soap and run it under warm water. Rinse it well with cold tap water, bacteria hate quick and drastic changes in temperature.

After the dildo is clean and rinsed off, try to dry it off with the cleanest and most lint free towel you have.

It's a good idea to rinse your dildo again before you use them, it's how to remove lint or dust that's built up since last time. It's also nice just to warm them up.

How to clean a vibrator

Don't submerge vibrators that aren't waterproof!

If you don't own a waterproof vibrator you might want to wrap a small dry towel around the battery cap where the batteries go while you wash it. This makes a bit of a barrier to the area where normal vibrators are most vulnerable during washing.

Simply apply some soap to your hands so that you have a lather, and wash the shaft of the vibrator just like anything else. Rinse the vibrator with the battery cap / control area facing up, and the tip of the vibrator facing down, and keep the stream of water on the shaft and away from the area where you put the batteries in.

Waterproof sex toys are the easiest to wash, just rinse them in hot water with some soap, then rinse with cold water.

Once the vibrator is clean and rinsed you will want to dry it completely with a clean towel.

After cleaning your vibrator, remove the cap from the base of the vibrator and take the batteries out for storage. This way your batteries won't wear out if the vibrator is left on by mistake, and the motor is also spared being worn out too. You should leave the cap off if you think some moisture got in the vibrator, so that it can dry.

Leaving the cap off during storage prevents moisture from being trapped inside.

Keep your vibrator wrapped in a clean, dry towel until you use it again.

Wash your vibrator with warm water before you use it again, just to get rid of any fibers or dust that built up during storage.

Washing pocket pussies, masturbators and vibrating vaginas...

Cleaning your penis pump, pocket pussy or realistic vagina is not much different from cleaning any container.

First you should remove any vibrating parts if you can. If you can't remove the vibrator you'll have to protect these parts by carefully wrapping them in a towel, and keeping the vibrator parts from being submerged.

Wash the inside and outside of your sex toy with warm soapy water and scrub out any mess inside. After that, give everything a good double rinse with warm water then cold, then dry the sex toy off with a clean towel.

Leave the sex toy where it can dry properly before you put it back together. Store your sex toy in a dry, dust free place. Wrapping it in a clean towel is a good idea.

Batteries

Many types of modern sex toys like vibrators or vibrating vaginas use some kind of battery powered motor. While sex toys are available that use other power sources, batteries are by far the most common.

If you intend to use your battery powered sex toys often, you would do well to purchase a battery charger and some rechargeable batteries.

Rechargeable NiMH batteries (nickel metal hydride) last very well under hard use, and won't loose power quickly. Ironically, NiMH batteries don't hold power as well during storage, so it's best to charge them up before use. These are one of the more expensive batteries, and are commonly used in digital cameras and other portable electronics.

NiCad rechargeable batteries are the most common type of rechargeable battery. They might drain faster during use, but they will also hold a charge longer during storage periods. They are also less expensive than NiMH batteries, and I would have said more available, but NiMH batteries are everywhere these days.

Its recommend that you get a battery charger can charge either NiCad or NiMH batteries, with a switch to select the appropriate type.

Make sure that you remove batteries from your adult toy if you won't be using it for a long time.
